Volunteer Opportunities

 

 

Title............Zoo Docents

 

 

Description......Docents assist zoo staff in carrying out zoo

                 education programs. Weekday docents work mainly

                 with school groups. Weekend docents work with

                 zoo visitors of all ages. Volunteers get

                 training, behind-the-scenes tours, zoo

                 membership with many benefits.

 

 

Target

Audience.........Adults over age 18 who love animals, communicate

                 well, and are willing to commit themselves to

                 lifelong learning and a modest but regular

                 volunteer schedule.

 

 

Cost.............$15 a year for training materials.

 

 

Location.........At zoo. Docents may volunteer for "outreaches"

                 to other locations in and around San Antonio.

 

 

Dates/Times......Weekday docents work three hours each week on

                 a chosen morning during the school year. Weekend

                 docents commit to work two three-hour shifts a

                 month year-around, signing up for preferred

                 shifts.
